Why Fr William is going on the Walk for Vocations

Why I’m going on the Walk for Vocations on Sunday 18th July
by Fr William Massie, Vocations Director

Because actions speak louder than words. It’ll be good to meet up with people from across the Diocese, all of whom care about priesthood and want to encourage vocations.

The walk has been planned for the afternoon so that even people from far-flung Hull and the East Riding and the Yorkshire Dales can get there. I want to call it a ‘pilgrimage of grace’. Not because we’re protesting against anything like our Catholic forebears in the 16th century who walked to London to protest against the dissolution of the monasteries. Rather because we’re proclaiming something by walking (and praying): we’re saying priesthood matters in this beautiful world we live in and are walking in, because we need grace as the divine sunshine of our souls. And the Lord will see our little pilgrimage and give his grace.
