What can I do as a teacher?
January 21st, 2008 by webmasterPray
Make a commitment to pray for vocations in class every week or every day. As a class you could adopt a particular prayer that you learn by heart. Perhaps you could adopt a priest to pray for.
Invite a Priest
Invite a priest or a religious to talk to your class about their life. They can talk about how they came to discover and respond to their own vocation. Encourage a discussion so that the students can express thoughts and ask questions about vocations.
Teach the faith
Students of any age ask deep questions about God and religion. Find ways of helping them to find answers. Search out good resources and books. A vocation is the response of the whole person, including the mind.
Study the scriptures
Take the opportunity to read and explore the Scriptures. There are so many examples of vocation that it can never be exhausted. Encourage the students to see the biblical figures as real people responding to a real call from God. The Bible is a challenge and an invitation and, in the right hands, anything but boring.
Inform the students
Let the students know that they all have unique gifts. these gifts are perfected and bring the most happiness when put at God’s service. Acquanit the students with the various ministries in the Church and the many ways that they can serve society. A willingness to serve others opens the heart to listen when God calls them to serve Him.
